Washington Elementary

Washington Elementary School is a public school within the Fayetteville Public School District, located in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It has 314 students in grades K-4. The Washington "Wildcat Patch" garden is five years old and is used by classroom teachers and after school program leaders as an outdoor learning laboratory throughout the school year. During the summer months, the Wildcat Patch transforms into a community garden for neighborhood residents and summer enrichment programs for our students and their families.

Melissa Terry

Melissa is a native Arkansan, mother of two daughters, MPA graduate student at the University of Arkansas, and social gardener who loves to read, research, and write about food policy. She and her husband own a 9 acre urban farm in south Fayetteville where they raise organic hay, heritage breed laying hens, honeybees, organic produce and solar energy from their on-farm PV array. Melissa loves cooking, roots music, hanging out with her family/friends, and working in gardens any chance she gets.

Success Story

"Taking our Washington Elementary students on a healthy shopping trip to our neighborhood grocery store was a great experience and a first for some of our students. We spent $20 and bought enough healthy snacks to feed our whole group of 22 children."
