The Audiology Department at Arkansas Children's offers a variety of amplification services for children with hearing loss. The audiologist will work with the patients and their families to determine which type of device suits the child's hearing loss. The choice of device will depend on characteristics that are unique to the child and his/her environment.
During the fitting appointment, the hearing aids and earmolds will be custom fit to the child's ears. The audiologist will provide family-focused strategies and counseling on how to care for the equipment, along with a complete hearing aid orientation.
Follow-up appointments are necessary after the child receives the hearing aid to ensure that the child is progressing well. These routine checks will allow the audiologist to determine if the hearing aids are functioning appropriately and fit correctly, and will also allow the audiologist to continue to address any questions that the child or family has regarding the hearing aids.
