FAQs about Receiving the Vaccine

What is the Status of the Johnson & Johnson Vaccine?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a joint statement on April 13th recommending a pause in using the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. There have been very rare reports of a severe blood clot condition, cerebral venous thrombosis, in adults who received the vaccine. Only 6 of the more than 6.8 million people who have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have reported this condition.

Arkansas Children's has not administered any Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.

The CDC and FDA recommended this pause so they can review these cases in detail. We do not know if this condition is occurring more often in Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccinated people than it would in the usual population. The CDC and FDA are undertaking this re-evaluation in an abundance of caution to inform future use of this vaccine.

Who is eligible for the vaccine?

On 5/12/21 the CDC endorsed the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for individuals 12+.  Arkansas Children's is now administering the vaccine to individuals between the ages of 12 and 21.

Can my child get the vaccine somewhere other than Arkansas Children’s?

Yes. Your family may have access to the vaccine at another community clinic or local pharmacy. Please research the options available at the ADH website.

We want individuals to receive the vaccine in the manner most convenient and helpful for their families.
