Bariatric surgery may be an option for some children who have not been able to maintain weight loss and control their health with diet and exercise alone. To be considered for weight loss surgery, the child must be:

  • Between the ages of 10-17
  • Have a BMI >40
  • BMI >35 with a co-morbidity 
  • Be highly motivated to make changes and have a good family support
  • Complete 6 months of supervised weight management within the COACH program
  • Be willing to adhere to follow up visits for 5 years post-bariatric surgery
  • Adhere to blood work as recommended by your team
