Una polisomnografía (PSG) durante la noche, también conocida como estudio del sueño, se usa para diagnosticar trastornos del sueño. The test is available upon request from the provider and most polysomnograms are performed in the sleep lab.
The specialty nurse and/or a sleep tech will visit with the family to discuss the PSG, give them a questionnaire to complete, answer any questions or concerns and have the family watch the Sleep Disorders Video to help them prepare for the test.
During the test, the polysomnogram technologist will observe your child's sleep, record information about sleep patterns, and identify any sleep disorders. The polysomnogram records brain waves, the oxygen level in your blood, heart rate and breathing, as well as eye and leg movements during the study. La prueba también registra los patrones del sueño nocturno.
In addition to helping diagnose sleep disorders, the polysomnogram may be used to help adjust the treatment plan if you or your child has already been diagnosed with a sleep disorder.
For some patients, a portable polysomnogram can be done on the nuring unit while the patient is admitted to the hospital.
