Dr. Mikki Kollisch is a pediatric surgeon who will be directing the new Critical Care Laboratory at Arkansas Children's Research Institute. Dr. Kollisch's research career began during her surgery residency in which she studied the influence of mechanical ventilation on propagating lung injury. She fell in love with research because of her experience as a trainee and loves engaging students in her laboratory to promote the future generations of researchers. Dr. Kollisch soon became interested in understanding the interplay between lung injury and overzealous inflammation, and she expanded her scope of research to include trauma and sepsis with active projects funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense. Cumulatively, the goals of her research program are to augment understanding and provide therapeutic candidates to improve the care and outcomes of critically ill pediatric and adult patients.
