Sprains occur when ligaments that connect bones stretch or tear. They are often caused by sudden trauma such as a fall or twist.

    Children often sprain:

  • Ankle
  • Knee
  • Shoulder
  • Wrist

    Strains occur when there is stretching or tearing in the muscle or tendon that connects the muscle to the bone. They can occur due to overuse of the muscle, muscle weakness or a sudden change in direction. 

    Children often strain:

  • Hamstring muscle
  • Quadriceps muscle
  • Biceps muscle
