Clinical Trials & Research

The pathology team works on clinical trials in collaboration with doctors and nurses at Arkansas Children’s. Our pathologists frequently send tissue samples to the Children’s Oncology Group for research studies.

As a member of the Children’s Oncology Group, Arkansas Children’s and its patients have access to nearly 100 active clinical trials open at any given time.

The Children's Oncology Group is a National Cancer Institute supported clinical trials group and the world's largest group devoted to childhood and adolescent cancer research. The group unites 9,000 pediatric cancer experts at more than 200 leading children's hospitals, universities, and cancer centers in North America, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.

Training Programs

Arkansas Children’s provides different training rotations to residents in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine (UAMS) Pathology program. Residents from the Department of Pathology and Department of Pediatrics complete multiple rotations in pediatric pathology at Arkansas Children’s. In addition, one student each year from the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program at UAMS also takes part in pathology training.

    Residents participate in:

  • Weekly pathology, medicine-pathology and surgery-pathology conferences
  • Sophomore pathophysiology course with teaching by faculty and residents
  • Research programs available in several anatomic and clinical subspecialties
